Welcoming the Newest Members of the MYP to the Humanities
This year we are happy to have nine, and soon to be ten, new additions to the MYP and Upper School! The MYP 2 group has a diverse mix of perspectives, talents, and interests, which is making for engaging and lively discussions. In our first two weeks in Humanities, the students have explored the idea of what it means to be human by reflecting on their own lives. In groups they have created their own word maps to describe human characteristics and experiences. Students have defined and explored what it means for a person to be influential for the purpose of knowing our first unit’s statement of inquiry: Influential individuals determine the course of history. Then they researched famous influential individuals that have had a global impact as well as individuals who have influenced their own lives. This is valuable practice for knowing and understanding, and investigating, which are two of the four key criteria in the Humanities. The research skills and knowledge they are acquiring at this stage will help guide them in future projects for this unit and throughout the rest of their Secondary School careers. Stay tuned for more updates on this special and talented group!
