MMUN First Opening Speeches
QAIS Delegates in grades 7-10 have been busy for the last two weeks.
In our MMUN program we have been using the IB Learner Profile attributes as delegations, in order to help students metaphorically understand International Policies. Likewise, through a series of brief simulations, delegates have become aware of the many layers that exist during committee at a United Nations Summit.
Ms. Alzbeta and I have been celebrating students’ ability to express their ideas, collaborate, lobby, persuade, and actively listening to their peers. Thus, seeing their well-rounded perfomance as they delivered their speeched, helps see the potential QAIS students have to become agents of change when the time comes to discuss global issues, or problems that have local implications.
Our lessons may still seem like a simulation, but anyone who witnesses how students are using their social and communication skills can clearly see how we are seeing some awesome negotiators in the making.
QAIS MMUN program allows students to develop social, communication and self-management skills, while also developing a spirit for international understanding, one core value in our Mission Statement.
Below are some pictures of our grades 7-8 lobbying session.
