Parents Visit Humanities Class During Open House
On Tuesday September 13th parents of MYP students were invited to join in observing and participating in classes. During this particular lesson, students were engaged in a Carousel Activity where they would “travel” to different locations around the world to investigate whether or not the famous explorer, Marco Polo was a fraud. Students investigated various sources in seven different locations while also practicing their ATL (attention to learning) skills such as researching, social skills, and thinking skills. They researched and collected information while working in teams of two and came to independent conclusions about their findings. Parents also investigated the seven documents and were given an insight into what their children were learning and how they went about doing so. This inquiry based activity showed parents that their child’s learning is based making their own conclusions and helping them to become independent learners.
