Creativity in Action – Assembling Country Boards

Today, our students got to assemble their presentation boards for the three countries they represent at the MMUN conference: Turkey, Switzerland and Sierra Leone. They did it in three hours with just one paper cutter, one pair of scissors and a lots of double-sided tape and impromptu solutions to unexpected challenges. Three creative and informative boards emerged from the process but one specifically caught my attention. Here is why…

As a teacher, I get constantly surprised by my students. I love when some of their unexpected talents shine through and when I get to witness their strengths in a new light. Today, I felt like that when watching Apple and Amelia working together on their country information board. Apple brought in so many fun, creative and visually sophisticated ideas and Amelia was working so well guiding their creative process through suggestions and thoughtful questions. It was fun to watch them to go from frustration at their board’s inadequacy to a spirited and energetic teamwork that turned their first product into a very creative presentation of their country – Sierra Leone. Here is a great example how struggle can be turned into growth. Well done!
